Meet Aisha Abdullahi, a proud alumna of Treford’s Content Marketing Program. In this conversation, she opens up about her journey in media and content creation, the motivations driving her career and the goals that fuel her passion for content creation. Content creation has always been my passion. But the journey to becoming a content marketer didn’t start with a fancy setup or even a clear roadmap. It began with a raw desire to share my ideas with the world.

From School Days to Content Creation

Back in school, I started my YouTube channel with nothing but an Android phone, a stack of books as my makeshift tripod and a lot of enthusiasm. I wasn’t aiming for perfection; I simply wanted a space to share my thoughts and connect with others.

While my first videos were far from perfect, they were an authentic expression of my passion for talking in front of a camera. Over time, this passion grew into a deeper interest in content creation, and I realized that to stand out in a crowded job market, I needed to build my own platform.

While my degree was in marketing, not media or journalism, I quickly realized that content creation was where I could shine. I wasn’t just looking to talk on air; I wanted to create something of my own. Even though it wasn’t paying me then, the joy I found in content creation made me determine to pursue it further.

The Shift: Embracing Content Marketing

Things changed when a friend, who works at my current company, gave me a crucial piece of advice:

“Stop posting content on your WhatsApp status where no one will see it—put yourself out there.”

It was a moment of clarity for me. At that point, I had just moved to Abuja, and the new environment and job made it tough to stay consistent with my YouTube channel.

She encouraged me to focus on consistency, just like she had done with her LinkedIn posts. By sharing content regularly on LinkedIn, she gained visibility and landed a higher-paying job. Inspired by her success, I decided to shift my focus to content creation and began writing newsletters to build my portfolio.

Treford Bootcamp: A Game-Changer for Content Creation

That’s when Treford Content Marketing Bootcamp came into the picture. A friend suggested I join the program. I took the leap because the course outline offered precisely what I needed—skills to enhance my content creation and a portfolio to prove it.

I had an accountability partner who checked my progress, ensuring I met deadlines and stayed on track. One of the mentors, Toni, was incredibly helpful during our coursework. His clarity on concepts and constant support gave me the push I needed to improve my skills.

From Passion to Profession: Growing as a Content Creator

Fast-forward to today, and I’m more confident and consistent than ever. I’ve rebranded my Instagram account and now plan my content 30 days in advance. I’ve realised that my strengths lie in storytelling and copywriting, skills I had previously undervalued.

Today, I work as a media officer, creating content daily. Although I’d still prefer to be behind the microphone, I see this role as an opportunity to apply what I’ve learned and continue to improve. It’s not exactly my dream job yet, but it’s a valuable opportunity to apply my content creation skills in a real-world setting.

Key Lessons: Simple Tools, Big Impact

One lesson that really resonated with me from the Treford bootcamp was that you don’t need expensive equipment to be a successful content creator. I started with basic gear—no ring lights, just natural light from a window and a passion for storytelling.

The bootcamp showed me that growth in content creation isn’t about fancy gear; it’s about discipline, intentionality and honing the skills you already have.

When I reflect on my journey, Treford bootcamp stands out as a key turning point. It wasn’t just a place to learn new skills—it helped me unlock my potential as a content creator.

Before the bootcamp, I knew I loved storytelling, but I didn’t realize how powerful it could be. Treford taught me how to structure my content, fine-tune my storytelling and gain the confidence to put myself out there.
